Damascus: Syrian Army's Operation to Liberate Wadi Al-Bardi Region Imminent

Syrian Army troops are about to start a fresh round of large-scale operation in Wadi al-Bardi in Western Damascus in coming hours after terrorists refused to join peace talks with the government, field reports said on Tuesday.

According to reports, terrorists' movements in Wadi al-Bardi have been increased and in return the army is preparing to carry out a vast operation to purge the militants from the region.

The army's artillery units have started shelling terrorists' centers in Wadi al-Bardi in Northwestern Damascus.

In the meantime, missile units and army aircraft have been pounding terrorists' positions.

Clashes in the regions of Souq Wadi al-Bardi, Ein al-Fijeh and al-Hosseiniyeh are underway simultaneous with artillery and missile shelling.

Wadi al-Bardi is a region that overlooks Western mountain of al-Qalamoun region and is located almost 20 kilometers to Damascus. Al-Qalamoun chain mountains have laid along joint border of Syria and Lebanon from where the terrorists were previously penetrating into Syria's soil form Lebanon, smuggling weapons.

Wadi al-Bardi is of strategic importance because it is home to a large volume of drinking water reservoir.

On Monday, the army troops intensified their anti-terrorism operation in Western Ghouta after Fatah al-Sham Front (previously known as the al-Nusra Front) did not continue to the peace talks with the Damascus government.

The army had dispatched a large number of its forces with a large volume of equipment to launch a fresh phase of operation in case the militants refuse to join reconciliation plan.

The army men started a fresh round of operation to liberate the militant-held region of Wadi al-Bardi and stormed Fatah al-Sham's positions in the farms near Wadi al-Bardi, advancing vastly against militants near the town of Wadi al-Bardi.

A military source said that the army would continue its non-stop battle to force terrorists to hand over Wadi al-Bardi to government forces.

Iraq's federal police commander, General Raed Shakir Jawdat confirmed that his forces continue to target ISIL defenses South of Mosul, in preparation to start a new round of military operation against the terror group in the Northern city.

“The federal police forces have killed four terrorists and destroyed armed vehicle equipped with heavy machine guns in al-Intisar neighborhood on the left side of Mosul,” Jawdat said in a statement on Tuesday, Badr News reported.

“The federal police forces have destroyed a defense post used by ISIL terrorists near al-Akrab intersection and killed four of them,” the commander said.

On October 17th, 2016, the Iraqi Army and its allied forces launched a major battle for Mosul to liberate the city and its surroundings from ISIL.
