URGENT: Iraqi Forces Expand Control to Borders with Syria

Secretary General of Hashd al-Shaabi (Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces) Hadi al-Ameri announced a few minutes ago that his forces have deployed at the country's borders with Syria, adding that the popular forces will soon launch an anti-ISIL cleansing operation along the border.

Al-Ameri said that Hashd al-Shaabi fighters have opened their way to Iraq's border with Syria, adding that the forces have deployed in the border village of Um Jaris.

"We are now in this region (Um Jaris) that is a border-crossing with Syria," al-Ameri said, adding, "Cleansing operation at Iraq's border with Syria from Um Jaris up to the town of al-Qa'em will be kicked off tomorrow."

A senior commander of Hashd al-Shaabi announced on Monday that Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has entrusted the popular forces with the establishment of security in bordering areas with Syria.

"Based on Haider al-Abadi's order, Hashd al-Shaabi's next responsibility is establishing security at Iraq-Syria borders," Spokesman for Asaeb Ahl Al-Haq Battalion (one of the popular forces fighting alongside the Iraqi army) Javad al-Talibavi was quoted as saying by al-Ma'lomah news website on Monday.

Noting that Hashd al-Shaabi has been able to regain control of all ISIL supply routes in the Western parts of Nineveh province as well as areas near al-Be'aj, Tal Afar and al-Qirwan, he said chasing the terrorists inside the Syrian territories by Hashd al-Shaabi depends on al-Abadi's decision.

US Army Worried about Syrian Army's Rapid Advances toward Borders with Iraq, Jordan

Field sources reported on Monday that simultaneous with the rapid advances of the Syrian Army troops towards al-Tanf border-crossing the US-led coalition warplanes dropped thousands of leaflets over the army-controlled region calling on them to retreat from Southern Syria.

The sources said following the Syrian army's advances towards al-Tanf border-crossing and their arrival in al-Shahmi region along the Damascus-Baghdad highway, the US-led coalition warplanes dropped thousands of leaflets, warning the Syrian units deployed in positions 55km away from al-Tanf to pull their forces back towards Zaza region.

Field sources reported on Sunday that the US and British Armies pulled half of their forces out of al-Tanf region, moving them to Jordanian territories.

The Arabic-language al-Hadath news quoted field sources as saying that the US and Britain evacuated half of their forces that were deployed in Syria's al-Tanf border region, relocating them to Jordan.

In the meantime, social networks affiliated to the Syrian Army reported that the US and British forces that were backing the terrorists of Aswad al-Sharqiyeh and Jeish al-Thowreh left their bases in the two regions of Hamimeh and Sukri in Eastern Homs.

The sources said that the US forces retreated via al-Tanf border-crossing towards Iraq and the British forces left al-Tanf for Jordan.

The sources also said that the entire patrolling groups of the US and British forces have left the border lines.

Last week, Arab media outlets said that the Russian armored units entered regions along the Syria-Jordan border to fortify the Syrian Army's border posts and positions and seal the borderline.

The sources said that a Russian Mountain Operation Brigade battalion arrived in the Southern provinces of Dara'a and Sweida. The sources further added that the Russian battalion was duty bound to fortify the Syrian Army positons in the region and seal the country's border overlooking Jordan where the Syrian forces recently gained the upper hand.
