Palestinian Leaders Warn of Strong Reaction If Striking Prisoners Harmed
Leaders of Palestinian political factions Tuesday warned of strong reaction if harm befalls any of the prisoners in Israeli jails who have been on hunger strike for 30 days.
Speaking at a press conference on the gravity of the situation of the 1600 striking prisoners as they completed one month of fast, member of Fatah Central Committee, Jamal Muheisen, said any harm that befalls the prisoners will lead to strong reaction in the street, WAFA reported.
He said the public stands firmly behind the prisoners in their hunger strike and reaction could be strong if they are harmed in any way.
Muheisen and representatives of other factions said all efforts should be exerted on pressuring Israel to accept the demands of the prisoners, who are calling for improvement in their conditions and treatment.
Omar Shehadeh, from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said committees should be formed to support the prisoners’ demands.
Wasel Abu Yousef, secretary general of the Palestinian Liberation Front, said the prisoners’ issue should be raised with the International Criminal Court.
Ahmad Majdalani, secretary general of the Popular Struggle Front, said the issue of prisoners touches every single Palestinian home.
Speaking on behalf of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Qais Abdul Karem said official and popular activities in support of the prisoners should be intensified and all kinds of pressure should be put on Israel to get it to change its policy toward the strike.
Bassam Salhi, head of the People’s Party, said the Palestinian leadership is involved in the activities in support of the striking prisoners.
